Skilltree NZ and Media Design School have teamed up to bring developHer to the Waikato. This two day programme featuring Aslihan Tece Bayrak and Mike Porter will teach young ladies (12-16) about how to create their own game. Students will learn how to code, create art, and game design techniques that they can expand upon their creativity and imagination. Walk away from this workshop with a game that you have created over this informative and creativity packed weekend. We will provide 12 hours of lab time with 8 hours of directed instruction over the two day period.

Media Design School is New Zealand's most awarded tertiary institute for digital and creative technology qualifications. The school offers two bachelor degrees in game development (Game Art and Game Programming) with many of the students getting jobs in industry straight after they graduate. Skilltree NZ is focused on shorter format learning experiences with industry professionals and targeted industry education.

BIO
Tece, a senior lecturer in the Bachelor of Creative Technologies at Media Design School has a background in software development for defence industry, and having planned several production pipelines for students, she has experience in various scales of software projects, development and management methods. She has a BSc & MSc in computer engineering and is currently a PhD candidate in computer science. Her area of interest includes game studies, pervasive games, design methodologies, game development, real time systems and HCI.

BIO
Mike Porter, previously the Programme Leader for Media Design Schools' Bachelor of Creative Technologies, and a 21 year veteran of game development, started Skilltree to bring his passions for game development, props, special effects, and other practical arts to the Waikato. Mike has worked as a lead artist, lead level designer, lead vehicle artist, and lead environment artist in companies in Texas, and Washington state. He was lucky enough to work on Halo 3, and with the development team that created Flight Simulator, and Train Simulator at Microsoft.

PREFERED PAYMENT

Payment of $300.00 is required in full prior to the commencement of the course. An invoice will be sent for payment once registration has been confirmed by SkillTree. Please Note: An administration & bank commission fee of 5% will also be charged for PayPal/Credit Card payments.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand things can happen that may require cancellation or transfer of student registrations. If you need to cancel 7 days or more before the commencement of the course we will refund all money paid less a 10% administration fee. We cannot provide a refund if notice is given less than 7 days prior to commencement of the course. In all cases notifications must be made in writing and sent to accounts@skilltree.co.nz.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Skilltree NZ teaches real world practices in creative and technology endeavors. As such there are hazards which can be encountered as part of our instruction. We may be using a variety of tools, paints, and chemicals as part of the facility. People with chemical dependencies must declare this to the instructors before the class. The following items may be used for your class (typically in the traditional art and r&d labs): Sharp instruments; Utility knives; Scalpels or hobby knives; Scissors; Adhesives; Contact cement; Super glue (Cyanoacrylate); PVA glue; Other adhesives; Paints and Solvents - Enamel based, Acrylic based, Lacquer based; Propellants; Solvents; Power tools; Saws; Drills; Sanders; Soldering Irons and heated cutting blades; Heat guns.

Proper instruction and safety gear will be supplied for each item used, as well as additional instruction by our professional mentors. All directions and commands must be followed for your safety. If you do not follow instruction, you will be asked to follow additional health and safety protocols until the instructors are satisfied with your understanding and compliance of our policy. If a student refuses to follow instruction they may be ejected from the course without reimbursement or compensation of any kind.
