This is an incredible opportunity to learn how to understand and sculpt a face, by working on the bone structure, muscles, fatty tissue, and sinew that makes up the morphology of our heads.  Understanding these underlying structures is essential to elevating your art practice.  Whether you are a student or professional, Javier can help you achieve a greater understanding of head anatomy.

Early bird pricing until January 5th where the price will increase to $350 as last minute ordering of materials may incur rush shipping fees.

Javier Murcia was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain and drawn by his interest in the world of cinema and special effects, he moved to Barcelona.  Javier studied fine arts at the University of La Laguna, training in different mediums such as drawing, paint, and foundry. His knowledge of anatomy was learned through dissection at the School of Medicine. Influenced by figurative and modern art, he started his professional and artistic career with exhibitions and commissions, creating pieces for both the private and public sector of his birth city.  Among these, we can highlight Homenaje al Chicharrero (2012), a sculpture commissioned by the local market of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Currently Javier is with collaborating with Weta Workshop as resident artist. His exhibition Visceral Beauty 2013, debuted to the public with a collection of sculptures of a very personal tone generously sponsored by Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger, owners of the company.

His current body of work can be seen at Te Papa in The Scale of Our War exhibit, and his personal work “Oxidations” can be viewed on his website.
